Set a selling price with Etsy feesFind how much resin one coaster usesSee a worked exampleHow to use this calculator
- Enter the price of your resin kit and its total size (resin plus hardener).
- Enter how much mixed resin one piece uses, and keep about 10% for waste.
- Add pigment, a share of the mold, and supplies like cups and gloves.
- Open the pricing calculator with your cost already filled in.
How the calculation works
- Resin per fl oz = kit price ÷ kit size
- Resin per piece = fl oz per piece × price per fl oz × (1 + waste %)
- Mold wear per piece = mold price ÷ pours per mold
- Cost per piece = resin + pigment + mold wear + supplies + hardware
Worked example: a resin coaster
A $45 kit with 32 fl oz in total costs $1.41 per fl oz. A coaster that uses 2 fl oz, plus 10% waste, uses $3.09 of resin. Add $0.30 of pigment, $0.50 of mold wear ($25 mold, 50 pours) and $0.40 of supplies, and one coaster costs about $4.29 to make.
Tips to lower your cost per piece
- Buy resin in larger kits once you know you like the brand; the price per ounce usually drops.
- Pour a full batch at once so less resin is lost in the cup.
- Clean and store silicone molds out of the sun so they last more pours.
- Keep leftover resin for small pieces like keychains instead of throwing it away.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to make a resin coaster?
With a $45 kit of 32 fl oz, one coaster that uses 2 fl oz costs about $3.09 in resin, including 10% waste. With pigment, a share of the mold and cups and gloves, it comes to roughly $4.29.
How do I work out the cost of resin per ounce?
Divide the kit price by its total size, resin plus hardener. A $45 kit with 32 fl oz in total costs $1.41 per fluid ounce of mixed resin.
Should I include the mold in the cost of each piece?
Yes. Divide the price of the mold by how many pieces you expect to make with it before it wears out. Silicone molds often last dozens of pours if you look after them.
What costs do people forget?
Mixing cups, stir sticks, gloves, tape, sandpaper, packaging and the resin that stays in the cup. They are small per piece, but they add up over a full batch.
